What does Chicano mean? Chicano refers to a person who is born in the United States but whose family originated in Mexico. The term became widely used during the Chicano Movement,mainly among Mexican Americans, who wanted to express an identity of cultural,ethnic and community pride. The Chicano Arts Festival will represent and promote the Chicano art movement by bringing awareness and education as well as highlighting Chicano artists who celebrate the meaning and the experience of being Chicano.
The VOICE of the Chicano is a voice of struggle, pain, beauty, strength, fight, connecting, family, Corazon, and history.
